Earlier that morning, Carolyn had gone into the stables to catch a ride on her younger filly, Missy. When she found that the mare wasn't in her stall, or in the field, Carolyn just about had a heart attack. The girl raced to her other horses stall and fumbled with the latch. Quickly she got her second mare, Dixie, groomed and tacked. Carolyn ran out of the barn and swung up on Dixie while they were both still moving. She was worried sick. What if Missy didn't just get out? What if she was stolen? Would she ever come back? Carolyn didn't want to think about those questions. Kicking Dixie to a flat out gallop, the girl laid low on the Quarter Horse's back. They went like this for a while, and suddenly Carolyn was really doubting whether they would find Missy or not. But then, about a mile ahead, Carolyn saw a flash of a slowly roaning rump. Pushing Dixie to go faster, Carolyn couldn't hold back her excitement. This had to be Missy! Once they reached the filly, who was now running to with all of the commotion, Carolyn took out her lasso and swung it above her head. With one swift motion, the filly had a rope around her neck. Carolyn halted Dixie and Missy did the same. Then Carolyn ponied her back to the ranch, happy her baby was safe. For now.
